Long Bio (345 words)
Dr. Carly York is a professional Catholic cantor, sacred music recording artist, and devotional writer based in New Jersey. A convert to Catholicism with over 25 years of professional sacred music experience, she brings classical training, liturgical scholarship, and a deeply personal faith journey to her ministry as “The Catholic Cantor”.
Dr. York holds a Master of Arts in Liturgical Music from The Catholic University of America in Washington, DC, with a focus on Choral Conducting. She went on to earn a Master of Music in Voice Performance and Pedagogy from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign; and a Doctorate in Education Leadership from Seton Hall University. As a lifelong educator and lifelong learner, she also holds a Graduate Certificate in Marketing from William Paterson University in NJ.
In 2025, she released two Gregorian chant EPs — Deus Ibi Est (April) and Glorious Mystery (August) — followed by the Advent single The King Shall Come in November. Her recordings are streaming on Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, and other major platforms.
Dr. York is also the author of Whatever Is Lovely; Summertime Stillness; Chanting Through Change; and Beyond the Bustle; which are short books that pair biblical reflections with original Gregorian chant recordings. These books are designed to help busy Catholic women, particularly those in the "messy middle" of life, find five minutes of stillness with God each day. She leads Sacred Stillness, a live retreat or parish mission program inviting Catholics to encounter peace through sacred music and Scripture.
Carly currently serves as Principal Cantor at the Parish of St. Mary in Colts Neck, NJ, and assists as a paid Cantor at several other parishes throughout the Diocese of Trenton. In July 2026, she transitioned from her role as Director of Marketing, Events, and Education at the American Classical Orchestra at Lincoln Center to dedicate her full-time efforts to her ministry as The Catholic Cantor.
Her work has been featured on SiriusXM's Sounds from the Spires, CatholicTV's This is the Day, The Cordial Catholic, Girlfriends with Danielle Bean, Fresh Catholic, Busted Halo, and in The Trenton Monitor.
